Entry Requirements:
You must be 16+ to attend the course.
Whether you are an aspiring artist, a lover of traditional arts, or simply curious about Ottoman culture, this course is perfect for you. Join us and unlock your creativity as you immerse yourself in the captivating world of Tezhip.
Course Overview:
This FACE-to-FACE 8-week course will cover Ottoman tradition ‘Tezhip’ patterns by artist Nagihan Seymour. This interactive course will start with an overview of the history and origins of the art. Then, they will learn traditional floral motifs (hatai, gonca, penc etc) as well as how to decorate the border of Islamic manuscripts. Students will be able to create their own composition and finish it using traditional painting outlining and illumination brush techniques.
This course will include a visit to British Museum to see Islamic art collection in one of the saturdays during the course.
Methods of Teaching:
The course will be taught according to the traditional training and the educational model used in Istanbul, which has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years.
Assessment & Certification
Students will receive hand-out at the beginning of the course about the terms used in this art and feedback throughout the duration of the course to track improvement.
A digital certificate of attendance or completion certificate will be issued at the end of the course.
Required Equipment & Materials
Most of the materials will be provided by the Institute.
Students will need to bring their own painting palette, pencil and brushes.
Brush recommendation:
Pointed round sable brushes, sizes 0 and 000; your tutor recommends Rosemary & Co’s Series 99 brushes or Winsor and Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable brush round Size 0 and 000

In the event a lesson is cancelled, the lesson will be added at the end of the course. We advise students to keep two weeks free from the course end date.
We recommend you avoid wearing loose clothing, especially large cuffs and neckties.
