Description
South Asian Heritage Month: Curator’s Talk – Mughal manuscripts the Mingana Collection
About this event
As part of South Asian Heritage Month, the Cadbury Research Library invites you to come and see Mughal manuscripts from the Mingana Collection of Middle Eastern Manusctipts. This session will be led by the curator of the Mingana Collection, Dr Neelam Hussain, who will talk you through the significance of the manuscripts and works of art on paper from the Mughal era.
Among the treasures you will see manuscripts that once belonged to the Mughal imperial libraries of Emperors Akbar, Janghir, Arungzeb and Shah Jahan. What kinds of books did they read and collect? How did they end up at the Cadbury Research Library? Come along and find out!
NB: This session is scheduled to run from 12pm-12:45.
The talk will be followed by art workshop from 1:30pm-3:30pm, where you can try your hand at recreating the marginal decorations in from album page from Shah Jahan’s album that you will see during this session. The art workshop has limited spaces and needs to be booked separately. Booking details can be found here: SAHM: Mughal Albums: Decorate-Your-Own Photo Frame
