The real gem of this adventure is the trek via Striding Edge, a knife-edge ridge that serves as the backbone to Helvellyn. This is where your mountain skills will be put to the ultimate test. The ridge walk requires sure-footedness, a head for heights, and a good level of hiking experience. Our hike starts from the quaint village of Glenridding, winding our way up the fells through picturesque valleys and along sparkling streams. Once we ascend to Striding Edge, prepare for a thrilling scramble with the sky as your backdrop and the earth far beneath your feet.

After successfully traversing the ridge, we reach the summit of Helvellyn, an ideal spot for a well-earned rest and lunch. Here, drink in the 360-degree panoramic views, spanning from the Pennines in the east to the Irish Sea in the west. It’s a vista that will leave you speechless and imprinted in your memory forever.

This hike is demanding, but the rewards are immense. Please note that this trip requires a good level of fitness, as well as experience in hill walking and scrambling. If you’re considering accomodation, keep a look out in your email for our featured offers & suggestions with YHA. We have two hikes in the Lake District on consecutive days, so whether you’re planning on doing one or both, you may wish to book accomodation where majority of the group will be staying.

THE WALK

Date: 21/8/23

Time: Meet 09:00, Trek starts 10.00am

Location: Glenridding Car Park

Car Parking: Glenridding Car Park, Greenside Rd, Glenridding, Penrith CA11 0PA

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY – (Car parking may be limited so it’s important to arrive on time to find alternative parking if needed)

Walk distance/Duration:

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Challenging – come prepared for a difficult trek and scrambling with heights. As always, being physically trained will help you enjoy the experience more.

The route is approximately 8 miles and it is expected to take the group 6-7 hours to complete at a casual pace.

After a short briefing, we shall start the trek at 10.00am sharp.

You should expect to complete the hike by 5pm

KIT LIST

Hiking boots with ankle support recommended, rucksack, waterproof jacket & trousers, extra layers, water bottle & packed lunch. You will be sent a full kit list via email.

– A guided hike, led by professional mountain guides

OTHER NOTES

– Tickets are non transferable and non refundable

– The higher ticket price for this event is a result of having a lower ratio between participants and mountain guides to accomodate extra support for what is considered to be a rather challenging hike.

– Please note professional photography & videography may be in place. Content may be shared by ourselves and third parties for marketing purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know on the day of the trek.
