Manchester Museum: A decolonial approach towards Islamic Cultural Objects

Join Dr. Njabulo Chipangura, Curator of Living Cultures in Manchester Museum to look at some of the practical strategies of collaborating with diaspora and descendant communities in to giving new meanings and biographies to materialities that are connected to Islamic cultural traditions. The discussion will also problematise the colonial context through which these objects were acquired by the British empire during various episodes of colonial rule in Asia and Africa.
