There is well known saying; ‘The one granted wisdom has been granted much good’. So where can we dig to find sources for wisdom that will help us to grow and flourish? The Sufi’s and others have indicated that the source lies within, if we can travel beyond the veil of our ego & desires.
In this event we hear from a renowned Arabic calligrapher from the UK, Sidi Mohammed al-Amine Eatwell, about his personal journey in illustrating a Sufi masterpiece of profound spiritual wisdom called the Hikam, written by the 12th century Sufi master Ata’Allah al-Iskanadari.
Sidi Mohammed’s life’s dedication has been in mastering a rare and traditional Moroccan style of calligraphy. Together with his late wife Lalla Bashira, the couple compiled a beautiful copy of the Hikam in this unique style of calligraphy. Copies of the book, signed by the artist, can be purchased on the night.
Accompanying this will be a short film detailing the artists’ practice and sources of inspiration.
The events theme is further explored with readings from the Hikam and by an expert panel who give their personal perspective on the roots, branches & fruits of the tree of wisdom.
There will also be a performance of Qassida, Sufi hymns sung in the classical Andalusian style by the ensemble Safa Singers.
