Jabril Network: Ajaz Ahmed - the Original Unicorn Founder

Come meet Ajaz Ahmed, co-founder of Freeserve, the UK’s first billion-pound internet company. In 1998 he was a PC World store manager in Leeds, where he came up with the idea of a subscription-free internet service and persuaded his Dixons bosses to launch it.

Freeserve went on to become the UK’s largest internet service provider and Britain’s first dotcom business to float on the stock market. It reached a peak market value of around £9bn, entered the FTSE 100, and was sold to France Télécom’s Wanadoo for £1.6bn. Ajaz saw the business through its flotation and sale as one of its three founding executives.
