Islamic Geometry Art workshop

An Islamic geometry workshop contemplating the origins of sixness in nature and cosmology and how it has been interpreted in Islamic geometric designs across time, space and mediums with examples from different Islamic regions.

Learn to draw a six pointed pattern inspired from the Hazra Gilania complex, where Hazrat Abdul Qadir Al Jilani (the renowned Sufi teacher who established the Qaderia School) taught and is buried.

Draw this beautiful pattern using the traditional compass and straight-line method.

The workshop will take place at the serene space of the School of Sufi Teaching zawiya in Bethnal Green, East London, a centre of learning and meditation where participants will be immersed in the beautiful geometric patterns in the building. It will also be live-streamed and you can purchase an online ticket.

All materials provided for the in-person event. Online students will need their own equipment as recommended below.

Following the workshop, participants have the option to stay for a 45 minute silent Sufi meditation.

Saba Kafil finished her Architectural studies in Baghdad, Iraq, where she was inspired by a rich and diverse architectural culture. She completed further studies in geometry and has recently been focusing on the philosophical aspects of space, the built environment and symbolic language. Saba is a keen gardener, approaches gardening as a sacred art and is inspired by traditional Islamic gardens.
