About this event
Welcome to Maryam Academy’s Marriage Conference! Our conference will comprise of insightful talks, engaging workshops and interactive activities to help you gain a better understanding of what marriage means in Islam. We will be discussing topics such as your rights and duties upon your spouse, marriage now VS then and much more!
We have arranged guest speakers from an array of ethnic and educational backgrounds to ensure that our esteemed guests (that’s you!) can benefit from each speaker’s content and their experience as much as possible.

Sheikh Zahed Fettah: Ustadh Zahed Fettah is a Lecturer in Islamic Studies. Zahed Fettah completed his LLB Law degree from the University of Birmingham, a BA in Shari’ah Law from the European Institute of Human Sciences, and an MA in Islamic Studies from Newman University (Markfield Institute). He then completed two years of specialisation in Usul al-Ifta in the Ḥanafi legal school. His classical Islamic studies were firstly with scholars in the UK, then in Algeria where he studied Tafsir and Hadith at Dar al-Hadith in Oued Souf (Algeria). He holds ijazahs in various books of Aqidah, Hadith, Fiqh, and other Islamic sciences.
Dr Nevine Elboussiely: Dr. Nevine Elboussiely holds an MSc in Diabetes from Roehampton University, London, and an MSc in Islamic Jurisprudence & Foundations from the European Institute of Human Sciences, Paris. She is the President of the West Midlands branch of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) and has served as a member of the MAB Shura National Council. Dr. Ahmed is an active volunteer and committee member at the Muslim Students House Masjid & Community Centre in Birmingham, and she previously held an executive board position with the Northern Ireland Muslim Family Association (NIMFA) in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Dr Omar ElHamdoon: Dr. Omer El-Hamdoon, a UK-based scholar, holds Master’s Degrees in Dentistry and Islamic Studies. With over 25 years of experience, he serves as an imam and plays leadership roles in various Muslim organizations. He is an educator, writer, and international speaker, specializing in bridging the gap between Islamic traditions and Western contexts. His work focuses on helping Muslims understand and practice their faith in today’s world.
Dr Huda: Dr. Huda Kamel Ahmed, a dedicated educator, holds a PhD in Education with a psychology focus. Her research centres on the conduct of everyday life as a framework for understanding young people’s lived identities. During her academic journey, Dr. Huda taught Social Islamic Studies at Maryam Academy. Her work continues to influence the understanding of youth experiences and identities.

Maryam Academy presents a 2-year course tailored for young Muslim girls. Our programme focuses on Quranic and Sunnah understanding, Arabic language proficiency, worship rulings, Sunni madhabs, Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life, and prominent scholars. We prepare students for responsibilities, marriage, and building healthy relationships, fostering their holistic development.
