(Re)wayat: renarrating Muslim Edinburgh
The Royal Society of Edinburgh, 22-26 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 2PQ, United Kingdom
Description
Join this exciting group discussion about what realistic and positive narratives go missing about the Muslim population in Edinburgh.
About this event
(Re)wayat: Renarrating Muslim Edinburgh aims to investigate what stories and narratives about Muslims in Edinburgh go missing in the public space. To do so, it explores what the dominant narratives about Muslims in the city are and how Muslims in and from the city conduct themselves in relation to these by collecting real and realistic stories and testimonies from Muslims in Edinburgh. The project is motivated by the rise in anti-Muslim and Islamophobic sentiment across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Come along for an exciting group discussion session about what realistic and positive narratives go missing about the Muslim population in Edinburgh. We invite you to join us to discuss the general representation of Muslims in the UK, the value(s) and limitations of using storytelling to combat negative stereotypes and representation, and identity more generally.
Group discussion:
Grab a cuppa and engage with experts in a friendly, relaxed environment. There won’t be any PowerPoints, notes or formality here – just the chance to ask questions and listen to some of Scotland’s leading thinkers and practitioners on various subjects.
To encourage discussion and allow everyone an opportunity to ask questions, we have limited the number of spaces available.
To participate in a Group Discussion you MUST be aged 16+
