Description
Islamic Arts Circle – Reading Early Qur’an Manuscripts: the significance of the Birmingham Qur’an Manuscript
About this event
Islamic Arts Circle
This lecture will explore the history and compilation of the Quran as a codex and its central place within the Arabic written tradition. Through the study of early Quran manuscripts, it will draw on examples from as early as the 7th century CE (1st Hijri century) – including the so-called ‘Birmingham Quran’ fragment – to chart developments in Arabic script and the way the Divine Word was presented in its written form.
MIAH Foundation would like to extend its thanks to the Cadbury Research Library for its support of the lecture series.
This event is free to attend. If you are in a position to contribute, we would be grateful if you select the optional donation ticket option to help cover our costs and plan further events.
