Background

Following on from the unprecedented success of our launch event in 2023, we are excited to announce the 2nd annual conference of MAC UK.

There are a few in our generation of professionals who, through sheer individual perseverance, determination, and commitment to personal and professional excellence, have made it to the top of their careers. These individuals are our role models for future generations of Muslim professionals.

This year’s event will continue to celebrate these role models of academic and professional excellence among British Muslims. We will delve into their vision, their struggle to realise that vision, the difficulties they encountered, the sacrifices they made, and ultimately the glory of their achievements. What lessons can we draw from their work, their achievements, and their struggle for our future generations? How can they help our future young professionals develop a culture of academic and professional excellence?

The conference aims to build on the foundation laid at our first event, working towards building a community of Muslim professionals who are committed to a culture of personal, professional, and academic excellence.

Mission Statement

“To promote and nurture a culture of academic and professional excellence among young British Muslim undergraduates, graduates, and professionals.”

Vision

It is a well-documented fact that Muslims globally are lagging behind in academia. Compounding this issue, there is a widening gap in professional excellence and professionalism between Muslims and other communities, with Muslims falling behind rapidly in these areas as well.

The situation for British Muslims is no better. According to the latest 2021 United Kingdom census, 3,801,186 Muslims live in England, comprising 6.7% of the population. In general, Muslims in the UK rank second or third from the bottom in terms of academic achievement and highly skilled professions.

MAC UK envisions changing this situation by promoting and facilitating a culture of academic and professional excellence among younger generations of Muslim undergraduates, graduates, and young professionals in the UK.

MAC UK aspires to provide a platform for young British Muslim academics and professionals to come together to discuss and deliberate new global academic and professional trends. The aim is to formulate new strategies for the Muslim community in Britain to stay at the forefront of these trends.

It is evident from the contemporary ‘Knowledge Industry’ that no field of knowledge grows in isolation. Whether it is biotechnology, engineering, medicine, quantum physics, mathematics, economics, law, politics, or any other academic or professional field, they are all densely interconnected and have significant overlap. None of these fields can progress in isolation from others. The interdependence of all fields of academia and professions is almost absolute.

Hence, MAC UK will be multidisciplinary, encompassing most major fields of academia and professions, enabling diverse expertise to come together and understand the direction of social progression in the UK.
