Join Amnesty International UK and Inclusive Mosque Initiative for a special Human Rights Iftar in Tower Hamlets
Together we will celebrate the power of community organising and collective action
About the event:
We welcome everyone to join us this Ramadan to gather for an uplifting Iftar meal and celebrate our communities’ work demanding universal Human Rights. From Palestine to the UK, our universal Human Rights are under attack and it is people power that will bring change.
A free meal will be provided, please registar to help us keep track of numbers.
We will hear from an exiting panel of Human Rights activists, including;
- Shaista Aziz, director of The Three Hijabis
- Sarah Al Sarraj, trustee at Inclusive Mosque Initiative
- Nabila Hanson, China Country Coordinator at Amnesty International UK
- And more information on speakers to come
We intend to pray Magrib together at 19:45. Please bring your own prayer mats and turbah stones. Please also be aware that we will not segregate the congregation during prayers, and you will see men, women and people of all genders praying together in the same rows. We will be led by a female imam. If you’re not praying with us, you’re invited to stay quietly in the space and then we’ll all eat together.
Access:
The venue is wheelchair accessible and gender neutral bathrooms are available. There will also be BSL interpretation. This event is in-person with an option to join online. For those joining online, a link will be sent to you a few days in advance and we will have auto-captions enabled. For those attending in-person, we encourage you to wear masks and take covid tests on the day of the event. We consider wearing masks a necessary act of care towards disabled and immunocompromised people. Windows in the room will be open to allow ventilation to prevent the spread of Covid so please dress warmly. Please see the event FAQs below for further information and who to get in touch with if you have any unanswered questions.
About the organisers:
Amnesty International is a movement of people from around the world standing up for humanity and human rights.
We campaign to protect people wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied. Our UK events programme looks at a whole range of human rights issues through debates, art, concerts and more.
Inclusive Mosque Initiative is a grassroots activist organisation which works towards promoting the understanding of an intersectional feminist Islam.
We are an intersectional feminist mosque dedicated to creating inclusive, safer places for marginalised Muslims and their families, especially non-traditional families. We are committed to reviving a rights-based Islam that challenges all forms of oppression. We call ourselves a mosque to demonstrate that a mosque is made up of a community, not bound by a building.
