MPN Networking event with guest speakers: Amer Gaffar – Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, Mohammed Kashaf Sultan of Eden Pureganic, Azhar Quaiyoom, CEO of Q Sustain Ltd.

Amer Gaffar is director of the £4.1m Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University and a sustainability professional with more than 23 years’ experience in the environmental sector during which he has led a number of large scale innovation programmes for both the private and public sector.

Amer is a passionate advocate for fuel cell and hydrogen technology and has successfully built consensus and momentum in Greater Manchester and the North West towards positive environmental practice and cleaner energy over the last decade. In 2013, Amer founded the Greater Manchester Hydrogen Partnership to develop and build the strong and diverse network of SME, industry, researchers and public sector stakeholders integral to the work of the Centre today.

In addition to his role at the Centre, Amer continues to lead a number of projects to make Greater Manchester a centre of excellence in hydrogen and fuel cells such as leading one of Europe’s first targeted programme of Hydrogen Education (HySchools. He is also leading the Net Zero skills pathway for NetZero North West and has led the development and authored the now formally adopted Greater Manchester Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Strategy alongside working with the UK Government to establish key deliverables for the UK hydrogen delivery council.

Azhar Quaiyoom is a highly motivated and charismatic entrepreneur and Chartered Engineering professional with 20 years’ experience within sustainable design and delivery across different sectors such as buildings and Infrastructure, in particular, rail, creating first of its kind achievements across complex projects.

This is coupled with invaluable experience in practical major programmes with extensive knowledge of the feasibility, design and implementation stages. With this experience, Azhar runs a successful consultancy at Q Sustain that is well placed to expand and diversify with a key emphasis on creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and engaging all communities to consider careers and activities related to climate action.

Azhar has a rare and exclusive combination of Engineering design, sustainability and practical project management experience with knowledge of how to implement low carbon and sustainable developments from concept, design, and procurement to construction and operation.

Azhar also guest lectures at University of Manchester, MMU and Leeds University in Sustainability and low carbon technology and is part of Muslims in Rail.

Mohammed Kashaf Sultan is founder of Eden Pureganic a socially conscious halal brand serving the Muslim consumer but at the same time radically changing the industry.

The last 10 years Kashaf has worked at every level of the value chain on farms as a slaughterman in abbatoirs and retail.

In 2016 he created one of the first halal companies specialising in distributing ethical non stunned meat nationwide.
