Entry Requirements
Children must be between 7-12 years old to attend the course.
This workshop is designed for children (ages 7–12) and adults to participate in together.
No experience or skills are required, only a sense of wonder and creativity.
Students are required to complete the form to register successfully.
Workshop Overview
Explore the elegance of Ottoman calligraphy with expert guidance from Gulnaz Mahboob!
Children will learn the Ottoman Rika (Riqa) Script, use traditional calligraphy tools, including a qalam (reed pen) and ink and explore the art’s historical significance. By the end of the course, participants will be able to write letters with correct technique, understand script proportions, and create a personalized artwork. Our instructor, Gulnaz Mahboob, trained by the esteemed Hüsn-i hat master (Reisü’l-Hattatin) Hasan Çelebi, is a true expert in Ottoman calligraphy. She will guide you through each step, sharing her knowledge and passion for this ancient art.

All materials will be provided by the Institute.

The workshop is taught in English, but some terminology used may be in Turkish.
As this is a craft workshop, the children might be using scissors etc and it is the responsibility of the accompanying adults to ensure that the scissors are being used safely.
All crafts and activities should be supervised by an adult.
We recommend you wear comfortable clothes.
It is recommended to always take safety precautions when performing crafts and activities.
Due to the risk of allergens, we will not be providing any food or snacks during the workshop. We advise that parents bring their own food for their kids. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
