(1925–2003) was a Bosnian statesman and Islamic thinker who served as the first President of an independent Bosnia and Herzegovina. During his tenure from 1990 to 1996, he navigated the nation through the Bosnian War and its secession from Yugoslavia. As the founder of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), he is remembered as a pivotal intellectual who advocated for a democratic, multi-faith society.
