Bird Ringing and Guided Walk at Walthamstow Wetlands
2 Forest Road, London N17 9NH, United Kingdom
Description
Observe and learn how birds are humanely caught, recorded and ringed, and join our guided walk at Walthamstow Wetlands!
About this event
Observe and learn about the process in which birds are humanely caught, recorded and ringed. The session is facilitated by the Walthamstow Wetlands Ringing Group.
Bird ringing generates information on the survival, productivity and movements of birds, helping us to understand why populations are changing.
Ringing data makes a major contribution to the study of population changes and to our understanding of species declines. Bird populations are determined by the number of fledglings raised and the survival of both juveniles and adults.
During bird ringing, the bird’s sex, weight and wing length is recorded.
After the session, we’ll be going on a guided walk through Walthamstow Wetlands, learning more about the site and the wildlife.
Bird ringing session: 7am-9am. Please be aware that more species are found earlier in the day, so do arrive on time.
Guided Walk: 9:15am-11:30am
