A Complete Guide to Zakat – Birmingham

Delivered by Dr Shahrul Hussain

LIMITED SPACE

This is a 2 day intensive course that starts on Saturday 2nd March 2024 and ends on Sunday 3rd March 2024 (1:30PM – 4PM both days).

“And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.” (2:110, Qur’an)

Zakat is one of the fundamental pillars in Islam and almost always mentioned together with salah in the Qur’an. Therefore, much like learning how to pray is compulsory for you, so too is learning the rules of zakat.

The warning for not paying zakat is candid and clear, both in the Qur’an and Hadith, for the person heedless of this duty. Therefore, there should be no excuse for a person not to learn the rules of zakat.

This course is unique, because it takes the learner on a journey to educate them about the rules of zakat in an easy step by step manner. It simplifies the complicated rules of zakat into easy bite-size and digestible forms. One of the uniqueness of the course is that it is a comparative study of all the four Schools of jurisprudence. This approach will provide a better and more comprehensive understanding of the rules of zakat. Another unique feature of this course is the discussion of zakat in regard to contemporary issues such as zakat on cryptocurrencies, stocks and shares, businesses and the like.

There are three levels to this course, each gradually building your knowledge set about zakat.

What will you learn on this course?

Level 1 is the basic course. It is an introduction to zakat. In this level you will learn about:

  • what zakat means and its juristic definition.
  • the ethico-legal precepts of Zakat in the Qur’an and Hadith,
  • the Integrals of Zakat
  • conditions for the obligation to pay zakat.

Level 2 is the intermediate course. It builds on from level 1 and furnishes you with the next stage of knowledge about zakat. In this level you will learn about:

1- The conditions for the validity of paying zakat

2- Time related issues with zakat

3- Understanding debt

4- The recipients of zakat

Level 3 is the advanced course. It not only builds on from level 1 & 2 but deals with some contemporary issues related business and investments. This may not be of interest to everyone but it is most certainly worth learning. It is most definitely essential for people engaged in commerce and e-trading. This course also deals with other miscellaneous contemporary issues such as distribution of zakat money nationally and internationally, zakat money to TV stations and the like. In this level you will learn about:

1- What are zakatable assets

Zakat on:

2- shares and bonds
